# Move boards between spaces

> Drag a board from one space to another in the workspace sidebar to change who can see it, or move a private board into a team space to share it.

Boards often start in one place and belong somewhere else later: a personal idea becomes a team project, or work moves from one client or team to another. Moving a board to another space keeps all of its content and changes who can see it. For an introduction to spaces, see [Create and organize spaces](/docs/create-and-organize-spaces).

## Drag a board to another space

1. In the workspace sidebar, open the space that holds the board and the space you want to move it to.
2. Drag the board onto the destination space. The space it will move into is highlighted.
3. Release the board. In the **Move project** dialog, click **Move**.

The board now appears in the destination space. If the board is open while you move it, it stays open and takes on the new space straight away.

## What changes when a board moves

A board's access follows its space. When you move a board:

- Members of the destination space can open it, with the role they have in that space.
- Members of the previous space lose access, unless they are also members of the destination space.
- The move is recorded in the activity of both spaces, and the new members are notified that the board was added.

The board's content, comments and history move with it unchanged.

## Move a private board into a team space

Boards in **Private boards** are visible only to you and cannot be shared. To share one, move it into a team space, either by dragging it onto the space in the sidebar or with the **Private** tag at the top of the board. You can also move a board back into Private boards. It then becomes visible only to you again.

## Who can move a board

- **Which boards:** you can move boards in Private boards, boards in spaces where you are the owner or an admin, and boards you own in **Default space**.
- **Where to:** you can move a board into Private boards or into any space where you are an editor, an admin or the owner. Boards cannot be moved into **Default space**.

Editors can still reorder boards inside a space, but moving a board out of a space needs an admin or the owner.

## What is not available on the Basic plan

Moving boards between spaces, including out of Private boards, is not available on the Basic plan.
