A swimlane diagram is a flowchart split into lanes, one for each team, role or system. It shows not only the steps of a process but who owns each one and where work passes between people.

## Generate a swimlane with AI

1. Click **Add anything** (the plus button) in the toolbar at the bottom of the board, search for **Swimlane** and add it.
2. Select the swimlane and click the AI button on the left of its toolbar.
3. Describe the process and who takes part, for example "Employee onboarding across HR, IT and the manager", and click the send button.

AI names a lane for each role and places the steps, decisions and connectors in the right lanes.

> **Tip** Name the teams or roles in your prompt. AI uses them as the lanes.

## Edit lanes and steps

| To | Do this |
| --- | --- |
| Rename a lane | Click the hand button on the swimlane, then double-click the lane's name. |
| Add a lane | Click **Add Row** in the toolbar. |
| Color a lane | Select a lane, then pick a **Row color** in the toolbar. |
| Change a step | Steps are shapes on the board: double-click to edit text, drag to move, or drag a selected step's blue arrow to connect it. |

Select the swimlane and click **Export Swimlane** to save it as an image.

> **Plan** The Swimlane component is available on every plan. Generating with AI uses AI credits. See [MockFlow pricing](https://mockflow.com/pricing/).
